Oregon Center for Nursing finds RNs in rural areas paid better relative to Portland

OREGON – A study published April 3 by the Oregon Center for Nursing found that registered nurses in rural areas were earning higher real wages than their counterparts in the Portland area.

The OCN surveyed RNs across the state between Nov. 16 and Dec. 8, 2023, and received 1,807 responses. When adjusted for cost of living, wage data showed that RNs in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties (all part of the Portland metropolitan area) had the least actual spending power of any region in Oregon even though their average salary was the highest.
