Arizona-based F-35s visiting Kingsley Field for training

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Kingsley Field will host a group of F-35s from Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix for training exercises over the next few weeks, the 173rd Fighter Wing announced in a Facebook post Wednesday.

The 173rd Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office said pilots from Luke AFB have come to prefer using the airspace around Klamath Falls for training in recent years because it’s much less crowded than the airspace around Phoenix. The office said the F-35s will also participate in joint exercises with Kingsley Field’s F-15s.

The F-35, formally called the F-35 Lightning II, is the U.S. military’s newest fifth-generation fighter. It has three variants; the F-35A was designed specifically for the Air Force and entered service in 2016.
