Basketball Game of the Week: Chiloquin girls, Lost River boys win big in rematches

Our latest mybasin.com Game of the Week took us back to Lost River for a rematch of the Raiders’ doubleheader at Chiloquin Monday. Here’s how both games unfolded Saturday.

Girls: Chiloquin 54, Lost River 11

It took longer for Chiloquin’s (15-1, 10-0 Mountain Valley League) offense to get going than it did Monday, but the Queens’ defense was there from the jump, holding Lost River (6-15, 2-8) to a season-low 11 points.

Chiloquin led 7-2 after the first quarter (they led 17-4 at that point Monday) and 22-5 at halftime. The Queens were up 41-11 at the end of the third quarter and held the Raiders scoreless in the fourth, which was played with a running clock (except on free throws). Chiloquin also scored 54 points in Monday’s game.

The Queens have now won 14 straight games.

CeCe Weiser led Chiloquin with 18 points, followed by Elaine Gilcrist with 13, Dejah Head with 9, Naima Head with 6, Toleus Ochoa with 4, and Makayla Jayne and Laila Weiser with 2 each.

For Lost River, Macey Thompson had 4 points, Betty Kay Overcash had 3, and Amaris Hernandez and Eily Hawkins each had 2.

The Chiloquin girls travel to Crosspoint Christian (6-14, 3-7) at 6 p.m. Tuesday, while the Lost River girls travel to North Lake/Paisley Charter (12-2, 7-1) at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Boys: Lost River 61, Chiloquin 31

Lost River (19-3, 10-1 Mountain Valley League), who trailed 31-27 at halftime of Monday’s game, snuffed out any hope of an upset early in Saturday’s game.

The Raiders held Chiloquin (7-10, 6-5) scoreless over the last 3:28 of the first quarter to take a 14-4 lead, then scored the first seven points of the second en route to a 33-11 halftime lead. The Panthers, playing without starting center Isaiah Reynolds, also didn’t score in the last 3:30 of the half.

A 23-point third quarter helped Lost River hit the running clock margin, pushing their lead to 56-22 heading into the final period. Chiloquin’s 31 points set a new season low.

Tate Freeman (who shot 7-of-8 from the field) and Connor Dunlea (who shot 5-of-7 from the field) shared the team lead for Lost River with 15 points each, followed by Chase McAuliffe (who missed Monday’s game with an injury) with 10, Kayden Hartman with 9, Emmett O’Brien with 6, and Juan Navarro and Beau Sanders with 3 each.

Freshman Dilen Black made 4-of-6 threes (all in the second half) to lead Chiloquin with 12 points, followed by Marques Hescock with 10, Manny Ochoa with 5 and Danny Black with 4.

The Chiloquin boys travel to Crosspoint Christian (15-6, 7-4) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, while the Lost River boys travel to North Lake/Paisley Charter (7-11, 4-6) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
