Governor Kotek Appoints Klamath County District Attorney

Klamath Falls, Ore. – After a long time of waiting, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek announced Friday that she will appoint David Schutt as District Attorney for  Klamath County, effective immediately. Schutt fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Eve Costello effective Oct 31, 2022. 

Schutt worked as a prosecutor at the Klamath County District Attorney’s Office from 1996 to 2000, when he was elected as the District Attorney of Lake County.  He served as Lake County District Attorney for 12 years before returning to the Klamath County District Attorney’s Office in 2014 for another six years.

For the last two years, Schutt has worked as a criminal defense attorney. Additionally, Schutt has served as an instructor for the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST), a legal skills instructor at Klamath Community College, and as a Town of Lakeview firefighter, emergency services dispatcher, and 9-1-1 operator. In 2008, he was named Oregon DUII Prosecutor of the Year. Schutt earned a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia.
