Klamath County Museum Iris Program
April 6, 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

The history of Klamath Basin gardeners who developed a special fondness for irises will be explored in a program set for 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, during a meeting of the Klamath District Garden Clubs.
The presentation will be given in the back meeting room of the Klamath County Museum at Spring and Wall streets.
Todd Kepple, director of the Klamath County Museum, will present “And Then They Grew Irises,” reviewing local residents who gathered large collections of iris over the past 80 years.
“Not everyone loves irises, but those who do find them fascinating for many reasons, including the connections with earlier generations of friends or family members,” Kepple said. “We still have a few irises that have been growing at various spots around the Klamath Basin since the 1940s.”
Among the individuals who will be mentioned are Violet Singler (shown in attached photo), who gave a presentation on irises in Klamath Falls in 1988, and Nancy Krause, who traveled the Pacific Northwest in 1942 as an iris judge.
Refreshments will be provided. The Garden Club District’s business meeting will precede the program at 10 a.m.
