Oregon Tech SID Honored with Five Top-10 Awards

ORLANDO, Fla. – Oregon Tech sports information director Mike Safford Jr. was honored with five Top-10 awards in the annual NAIA-Sports Information Directors Association Publications and New Media Contest.

Safford, in his first full year at OIT and his 24th year in the profession, pushed his career Top-10 awards in the contest to 77 – which includes eight “Best in the NAIA” accolades. He has received at least one Top-10 award from the NAIA-SIDA each year since the 2001.

The online home of OIT athletics, OregonTechOwls.com, earned the bronze medal in the Top Website category, while the layout, design and content of the 2023 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round program was picked No. 5 in the Game Program contest.

Safford earned the No. 6 spot in the Call of the Year category for his description of Mckenzie Staub’s perfect game in a softball win over Warner Pacific; his baseball season preview was tabbed No. 7 in the Season Preview/Review category; while his men’s basketball game notes was picked No. 9 in the Game Notes division.
