LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon used a 16-0 first half run to grab control of the contest, as the Mountaineers completed a regular-season sweep of Oregon Tech, topping the Hustlin’ Owls, 84-58, at Quinn Coliseum.
EOU (21-7, 16-4 CCC) claimed a share of the CCC title with Lewis-Clark State, but LC won a tiebreaker to earn the league’s automatic bid to the NAIA Championships and the No. 1 seed in the CCC Tournament.
The Hustlin’ Owls (19-9, 14-6) finished in a 3-way tie for third in the standings – claiming the No. 4 seed in the postseason and will play host to College of Idaho on Wednesday, with tip-off at Danny Miles Court set for 7 p.m. Season Ticket holders have received an email for ticket renewals and will have until Tuesday at 4 p.m. to secure their seats (either online or at the Athletic Ticket Office on Monday or Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
The Mounties held Tech without a made field goal for six minutes in the first half, getting triples from Trent Rogers and James Bodily, turning a 9-5 OIT edge into a 21-9 Eastern lead. The push continued late in the period, as a steal and 3-pointer from Logan Orchard at the horn extended the margin to 46-28 at the half – with the lead remaining at 16 points or greater the rest of the night.
Tech was held to a season low 58 points, making just 38% of field goals, including 2-of-18 shooting from distance. Colby Whicker scored a season-high 12 points, Gylan Payne scored 11 and Jackson Cooper added 12 rebounds.
Rogers led EOU with 17 points in the win.
