EUGENE, Ore. – Putting a shocking loss on Friday night behind them, Oregon Tech slowed the tempo offensively and clamped down on the defensive end, cruising to a 66-48 victory, spoiling Bushnell’s celebration of newly named Dave Lipp Court.
The Hustlin’ Owls (17-7, 12-4 CCC) made 59% of their field goals in the victory, while limiting the host Beacons to a season-low 24% clip, including 2-of-20 shooting from 3-point range.
Grant Tull scored a game-high 18 points for the Owls, including a 3-pointer and a driving lay-up in a 16-2 first half run, giving Tech a 22-11 lead. Jared Sucher capped the half with a free throw line jumper and a long 3-pointer, extending the edge to 34-20.
While the Beacons (11-12, 8-8) couldn’t muster any consistent offense, OIT methodically built the lead while milking the bulk of the 30-second shot clock. Leading 42-29, the Owls got lay-ups from Owen Nathan and Sucher, a dunk from Dakota Reber, with Tull banking home a shot clock ending 3-pointer to cap the 13-2 run to give the visitors a 55-31 lead with eight minutes left.
Sucher finished with 16 points and Jackson Cooper posted 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the victory.
Kaleb Burnett led BU with 17 points, with the rest of his team combining to make 9-of-47 shot attempts.
The Hustlin’ Owls have a quick turnaround, hosting rival Southern Oregon on Tuesday night in the 13th Annual Blackout for Hunger game – with the first 1,000 fans making a donation of food or any monetary value to the Klamath-Lake Counties Food Bank receiving a commemorative Blackout t-shirt.
