The first official trailer for the upcoming documentary chronicling Paul McCartney’s life, titled Man on the Run, has just been released. The film, directed by Morgan Neville, looks at McCartney’s life following the breakup of The Beatles, including the formation of his band Wings.

Streaming globally beginning February 27th via Amazon Prime, Man on the Run will draw on “unprecedented access to a never-before-seen archive of Paul and Linda’s home videos and photos, as well as new interviews,” according to the original press release. The film will focus primarily on the time from The Beatles’ 1970 break-up, until Wings’ rise to fame throughout the mid-1970s.

The official synopsis reads: “Neville chronicles McCartney’s solo career as he faces emotional, artistic and personal challenges while defining a new decade of music. Through unprecedented access to previously unseen footage, rare archival materials, and deeply personal interviews, the film captures a transformative era — one marked by reinvention, family unity, artistic risk-taking, and the iconic Wings years.”

The trailer for the film features archival pictures and footage of The Beatles, McCartney and wife Linda McCartney, Wings; and has McCartney talking about the depression he felt after The Beatles’ breakup, the pressures he felt starting Wings, and his relationship with John Lennon. McCartney says in the trailer: “The Beatles had been my whole life really. When we split up, I thought, ‘I’ll never write another note of music ever.’”  He later shares “When we started Wings, it was about freedom, and we felt we finally arrived — second time around.”

Neville said in a statement: “As a lifelong obsessive of all things McCartney, I’ve always felt that the 1970s were the great under-examined part of his story. I’m thrilled to have the chance to explore and reappraise this crucial moment in a great artist’s life and work.”

Man on the Run includes new interviews from Wings’ Denny Laine, Sean Lennon and The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde, is set to premiere globally on Prime Video on Feb. 27. See the trailer: HERE.
