COLUMBIA, Ky. – Tatum Schmerbach recorded her third 20-point game of the season, but the big night from the Oregon Tech junior wasn’t enough, as Lindsey Wilson outlasted the Lady Owls, 77-65, inside Biggers Sports Center.
The Blue Raiders (7-2) used an 18-7 edge in offensive rebounds, converting 21 second-chance points, to keep Tech at bay the entire second half. Meadow Tisdale had 23 points and eight rebounds, with Claire Fleming scoring 21.
After an even first quarter, OIT (3-3) grabbed a 19-18 lead on a short second-quarter Schmerbach jumper, but Fleming canned back-to-back 3’s, and Tisdale converted a 3-point play on the block, part of a 16-4 run that gave LWC the lead for good.
Trailing by as many as 14 points, the Lady Owls cut the deficit to 52-48 in the third quarter after Maddie Eischen drained a triple and Schmerbach made consecutive free throws – but LWC had an answer, making their final 11 free throws to close out the win.
Schmerbach had 23 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in the loss. Olivia Sprague finished with 15 points, five rebounds, and a career-high five blocks, while Brooke Anderson scored eight, and Eischen posted a career-high seven points.
The Lady Owls continue their long road trip Friday, traveling to Helena, Mont., for the Carroll Thanksgiving Classic.
