SALEM, Ore. – The Klamath Falls Falcons extended their win streak to five with a doubleheader sweep of the Salem Wellcare Dodgers, 19-2 and 7-4 at Sprague High.
P.J. Safford combined for six hits on the day, while Hunter Glidden and Colby Medeiros each tossed complete games for the Falcons (24-6-1).
Klamath scored six first inning runs in the opener, with Ian Meyer lining a 2-run single to key the rally. Safford cleared the bases with a 3-run double in the fourth to extend the margin to 15-2 – part of a five RBI game.
Glidden allowed just five hits and fanned a season-high eight in the win. Carson Siems was 3-for-3 with four RBI, with Meyer adding four RBI on a pair of hits.
The Falcons had to rally in Game 2, as Dodgers (0-23) starter Kayden Wagner tossed 130 pitches (25 over the Legion limit) and handcuffed the visitors most of the afternoon.
Salem plated three first inning runs, but the Falcons rallied in the fourth, as Carson Pimley doubled and courtesy runner Chase Barrett scored on a dropped fly ball with two outs. An inning later, Pimley tied the game with a 2-run single, with Safford scoring the go-ahead run on a double-steal.
After the Dodgers pulled even, plating an unearned run in the sixth, Klamath scored three in the seventh to regain the lead – with Jacoby Tacchini delivering a key pinch-hit RBI double.
Medeiros allowed three earned runs on seven hits, fanning six in the win, with Safford going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored, with Pimley going 2-for-2.
The Falcons return home for four games – beginning Friday with a key Area 4 doubleheader vs. North Jackson at 5:30 p.m., followed by a 1:30 p.m. Sunday matinee vs. Phoenix and a Monday 5 p.m. match-up vs. the Roseburg Dr. Randol’s Crowns.
