Falcons Down South Anchorage 14-2 in Alaska 529 Midseason Classic

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Klamath Falls Falcons (15-3) used four errors to score eight unearned runs against the South Anchorage Wolverines (5-7) in the first game of the Alaska 529 Midseason Classic in Anchorage.

Max Price led off the first inning with a single and would later score on an infield groundball off the bat of P.J. Safford. Ian Meyer followed with a two-RBI single, putting the Falcons up 3-0 after the first inning.

The Wolverines responded in the second inning, when Evan Baldwin singled to left field, scoring Devin Berg. The Klamath Falls squad rallied in their second inning with five consecutive singles from Carson Siems, Ryan Douglas, Price, Conner Shively, and Jacoby Tacchini. Shively had one RBI on his hit, while Tacchini picked up two. The Falcons added three more runs in the inning when Meyer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Corbin Hamilton was walked. Siems then hit a sacrifice fly to earn an RBI.

The Falcons put the game out of reach in the third inning, scoring five runs in the frame. The Wolverines added a single run in the fourth inning, but fell short of extending the game before the mercy-rule decision.

Hayden Poore picked up his fourth win of the season on the mound, working 3.2 innings and allowing five hits and one earned run while punching out four batters. Will Preston was the losing pitcher for South Anchorage, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing seven hits, nine runs (six earned), and striking out two batters.

Offensively, Siems was selected as the 529 Player of the Game, going 2-2 with two RBI and a run scored. He was helped by Price, who finished 2-2 with two runs scored. Meyer finished 1-2 with three RBI and a run scored.

The Falcons continue play at the Alaska 529 Midseason Classic on June 27th when they face the Chugiak Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. ADT (8:30 p.m. PDT). Watch the game live on mybasin.com.
