The Klamath Falls Falcons have advanced through pool play at the Northwest Class ‘A’ American Legion Baseball Regional Tournament. After going 2-1 through the group, the Falcons are moving on to the regional semifinal for a rematch from the Oregon State Championship. Here is how each game unfolded.
8/6 Burley (ID) 11, Klamath Falls 9
The Green Sox staved off a late rally from the Falcons to cling to a two-run victory. The Falcons scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh and got the tying run to the plate, but came up short in the opening game of the tournament. Jake Redder was a difference-maker for the Idaho representatives, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. The Falcons collected four doubles from Chase Barrett, Jacoby Nickerson, Jacoby Tacchini, and Trustin Thomas.
8/7 Klamath Falls 11, Sheridan (WY) 6
A six-run second inning powered the Falcons to a victory in the second game of pool play. Klamath Falls amassed 12 hits in the contest, with seven going for extra bases and Chase Barrett, Carson Siems, and Jacoby Tacchini each belted a pair of two-baggers, with Corbin Hamilton adding one. Hunter Glidden got the win on the mound, working 4.0 innings and allowing five hits, three earned runs, and striking out five batters. P.J. Safford earned the save in 2.2 relief innings, allowing one hit and striking out six.
8/8 Klamath Falls 6, Cache Valley (UT) 1
In a game where the Falcons needed a win and to allow as few runs as possible, Kollin Tacchini turned in his strongest outing of the season. To earn a bid to the semifinals, the Falcons needed to win the ballgame and allow fewer than four runs. The Lakeview product shined on the hill, working a complete game and fanning nine batters. The Falcons only got two hits, a double from Jacoby Tacchini and an RBI single from Ian Meyer, but were aided by seven errors by the Wolverines.
What’s Next?
The Falcons have advanced to the semifinal of the regional tournament and will face a familiar foe in the Eugene Ole Athletics. The Ole’s breezed through pool play with a perfect 3-0 record, including two shutout victories.
The Falcons have already faced Eugene three times this season. A regular-season meeting on June 24th saw Klamath Falls win 14-1. But Eugene answered the call at the Oregon State Tournament with a 6-5 win during bracket play, and a 2-1 win in the title game.
