KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech got big performances in the circle and at the plate, as the No. 2-ranked Lady Owls ran their win streak to 10, completing a key 4-game sweep of British Columbia with 9-1 and 7-2 wins at Stilwell Stadium.

Kristine Schmidt and Carli Moore threw complete-game 3-hitters, while the Lady Owls (27-3, 11-1 CCC) used 13 extra base hits between the two games to pace the offensive attack.

Nita CookMalia Mick and Sawyer Stenson each recorded four hits in the twinbill, while Addison Kachnik picked up her 200th career hit in the Game 2 win.

Game 1 featured a pitchers duel between Schmidt and UBC (14-12, 5-4) ace Carleen Murray, each putting up zeros over the first three innings. From there, it was all Tech.

In the fourth, OIT capitalized on a 2-out fielding error, giving Leah Huffman a chance – as the sophomore lined a go-ahead RBI single to right, giving the Owls a 1-0 lead. An inning later, the Owls chased Murray as a Kachnik RBI ground out was followed by a Puakea Milbourne RBI double, extending the margin to 3-0.

The hosts left no doubt in the sixth, batting around for six runs – with Hayden Rockwell doubling home a pair, Cook blooping an RBI double, Kachnik launching a 2-run homer and Milbourne and Stenson hitting back-to-back doubles to make it 9-0.

Schmidt did the rest, holding UBC to a run on three hits for her third win of the series, improving to 12-0 on the season. Six players – Cook, Milbourne, Stenson, Mick, Huffman and Brooklyn Loose each having two hits.

The T-Birds opened the scoring in the first inning of Game 2, as Zoe Willington hit a 2-run double of the wall in center. However, Moore found her rhythm as the game progressed – retiring the final 11 batters in a row.

OIT’s offense pieced together rallies – as Cook lined a solo homer to left in the third to get within a run – while in the fourth, Jazmine Macias lined a 2-run single to give the Owls the lead. Tech played add-on in the late innings, as sixth inning RBI singles from Huffman and Loose made it 5-2 and Stenson closed the scoring in the seventh with a 2-run single.

Four players – Mick, Stenson, Kachnik and Cook – had two hits for the Lady Owls.

Tech, who improved to 12-0 at home this season, closes out a 12-game homestand next weekend, hosting Corban for Friday-Saturday doubleheaders.
