Yreka, CA – An 18-year-old driver from Etna tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle collision early Friday morning, March 13, east of Yreka. The California Highway Patrol reported the crash occurred at about 3:37 a.m. when the driver was operating a blue 2009 Honda CR-V eastbound on Oberlin Road. The vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with a tree, resulting in fatal injuries for the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the vehicle, a 16-year-old female passenger suffered minor to moderate injuries and was promptly transported to Fairchild Medical Center for treatment. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Meanwhile, authorities remind drivers to practice caution during nighttime driving, emphasizing the importance of rest and avoiding fatigue. After all, driving while drowsy is no joke, and the trees don’t have the same sense of humor as a late-night snack run.
