LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon claimed a share of the Cascade Conference regular-season title, converting 10 3-point baskets in an 82-69 victory over Oregon Tech at Quinn Coliseum.
Despite the loss, OIT (18-10, 14-6 CCC) finished in tie for fifth-place in the final standings and will meet College of Idaho in the CCC Tournament quarterfinals in Salem this Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Corban claimed the No. 1 seed, winning a tiebreak with EOU and earning the host site for the 8-team tournament.
Tech held a 33-32 lead late in the second quarter, but the No. 14-ranked Mountaineers (24-4, 16-4) scored the final eight points of the half.
The Lady Owls battled back, getting a 3-pointer and a short jumper from Ayla Marston, cutting the margin in the third quarter to 46-43. Haylee Johnson answered for the Mounties, canning a triple and Kelsie Siegner converted a 3-point play on the block, part of an 8-0 run that pushed the lead to double-figures – helping the hosts complete a season sweep of Tech.
Siegner led all scorers with 34 points and Johnson scored 15 for EOU, as the Mounties finished the night 10-of-24 from 3-point range and held a 22-8 edge in made free throws.
Olivia Sprague led four Lady Owls in double-figures with 16 points, Marston tied a career-high with 15, with Tatum Schmerbach scoring 14 and Avery Andrews adding 12.
