Henley Outlasts Klamath Union at Home

The Henley Lady Hornets (15-4; 8-0) extended their current winning streak to nine games with a 74-33 win over Klamath Union (8-12; 4-4) on Tuesday night. The Hornets wasted no time establishing dominance, jumping out to a 27-0 lead after the first quarter, and coasting to a victory. Makayla Shroeder led all scorers with 19 points. Lily Fussel added 13 points, and Gretchen Cheyne scored 12. Lisette Watah led the Pelicans in scoring with 17 points. With this win, Henley secured the season sweep of the Pelicans and clinched a spot in the OSAA State Championships. A win on Friday against Phoenix would clinch Henley its fourth consecutive league title. Before that, they’ll face the defending 5A State Champion Crater Comets at the Hornet’s Nest on Wednesday night.

In the nightcap, the Henley Hornets (9-12; 3-5) staved off a late comeback attempt with a 55-52 win over Klamath Union (10-10; 5-3). The Hornets were down 9-1 only three minutes into the game, but embarked on a 21-3 run over the next nine minutes to claim a large lead. Henley held the lead until under a minute to go in the third quarter when Klamath Union’s Tildon Coffman buried a triple to tie the game at 41-41. The teams traded the lead four times in the fourth quarter, until Ries Schmerbach nailed a three-pointer with 37 seconds remaining to give Henley a 53-52 lead, which they would hold. Schmerbach led Henley in scoring with 15 points. Corbin Hamilton scored nine, while Carson Siems and Micah Ibarra added eight each. Tildon Coffman drained five triples to lead the Pels in scoring with 16 points. Toby Thomas scored 12, and Tuko Saluskin had 11. Klamath Union will face Mazama on Friday, while Henley travels to Phoenix.

Crosspoint Girls, Chiloquin Boys Victorious in Gino’s Game of the Week

The Crosspoint Christian girls (16-4; 5-3) defeated the Chiloquin Queens (7-12; 1-8) 63-39. Chiloquin gained an early 8-0 advantage, but Crosspoint responded by scoring eight straight to end the frame, and carried the momentum throughout. Hannah Langford led the Warriors in scoring with 23 points. She was helped by Rylee Paulsen, who sank three triples and was a perfect 8/8 at the line. Olivia Fenner added 11 in the win. For Chiloquin, Xavah Hescock scored 13 points, all in the second half. Coley Miller added 11 for the Queens. This is Crosspoint’s fourth straight win, and they still have a shot at one of the Mountain Valley League’s three state tournament berths. They’ll match up with North Lake on Friday. Chiloquin will play Prospect Charter to close the season.

The Chiloquin Panthers (19-4; 12-1) used a dominant third quarter to put away Crosspoint Christian (17-6; 10-2) 61-47. The game was within reach at halftime as Crosspoint trailed 23-18, but the Panthers found a new gear, outscoring the Warriors 25-10 in the third and hanging on for a victory. Edward Jones scored 13 of his 15 points in the quarter for Chiloquin. The Panthers were led in scoring by Denver Bravo with 19 points. Dillen Black also scored 15. Crosspoint was paced by Brock Throne with 17 points. This win for Chiloquin guarantees them at least a share of the regular-season Mountain Valley League title, something they have not accomplished since 2016. They’ll close the season on Friday against Prospect Charter. Crosspoint faces North Lake on Friday, then wraps the season on Saturday against Rogue Valley Adventist.
