From a press release from KCSO:
We have received multiple reports this week of scammers contacting local residents and claiming to be members of the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office.
In several cases, callers have:
• Contacted family members of inmates
• Claimed money is needed to pay for an ankle monitor
• Identified themselves as Klamath County Deputies or Detectives
• Used “No Caller ID” or spoofed phone numbers that appear to be from the Sheriff’s Office
• Told victims they missed jury duty or have an active warrant
• Requested payment by credit card or other immediate methods
This is a scam.
The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office will never:
• Call you and demand payment for fines, warrants, jury duty, or ankle monitors
• Ask for your credit card number over the phone
• Threaten arrest unless immediate payment is made
Scammers may be using publicly available information to target families and make their calls sound legitimate.
If you receive one of these calls:
• Hang up immediately
• Do not provide any personal or financial information
• Report the call to the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office
Please help us spread the word by sharing this post with family and friends, especially those who may have loved ones in custody or could be vulnerable to these tactics.
Your awareness helps protect our community.
