KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Kali Kast canned a 3-pointer with just over two minutes remaining to break a tie, as Eastern Oregon remained unbeaten on the season, outlasting Oregon Tech, 68-64, before a loud Pink Out crowd at Danny Miles Court.
The game featured 15 ties and seven lead chances, with the Mountaineers (15-0, 7-0 CCC) clamping down defensively late to claim the road win.
The Lady Owls (9-6, 5-2 CCC) tied the game at 64-64 following an Olivia Sprague steal which turned into an Ayla Marston transition lay-up. However, Kast responded with her third 3-pointer of the night on the ensuing possession to give EOU the lead.
OIT had chances to tie the score in the final two minutes, but finished 0-for-4 with a turnover, as the Mounties did just enough for the victory.
Tech controlled the first quarter, as Sprague hit a jumper and splashed a 3-pointer, Tatum Schmerbach added a triple and Avery Andrews scored twice on the block, part of an 11-2 run, giving OIT a 23-12 lead.
EOU returned the favor in the second quarter, as Kaiea Waiwaiole scored six points in an 11-2 Mounties run to even the score at 32-32 – with neither team leading by more than four points the rest of the night.
Schmerbach led all scorers with 20 points – her 21st consecutive double-digit scoring game – with Sprague scoring 13 points.
Kelsie Siegner had a double-double for Eastern, scoring 15 points with 15 rebounds, with Waiwaiole scoring 13 and Kast posting 12. The Mounties held a 39-31 rebound edge, scoring 14 points off 13 offensive rebounds.
