DOWNTOWN KLAMATH FALLS, OR — The Klamath Falls Downtown Association (KFDA) is excited to announce the completion of the first ‘Wings Walk’ interactive art installation at the corner of 9th and Main Street, marking a vibrant new chapter for the heart of Klamath Falls. This mural project is designed to inspire residents and visitors alike to explore downtown, engage with public art, and enjoy an enhanced community experience.
Introducing Artist Ashley Spivey
The inaugural mural was created by local artist Ashley Spivey, whose dynamic style and commitment to community creativity shine throughout her work. Ashley is the owner of Starry Night Studio, located in Klamath Falls.
Statement from Ashley:
“I grew up right here in Klamath County and love raising my three daughters here. It has been a thrill when I’ve been given opportunities to paint murals around our town. As an elementary child, I was able to experience having Mr. Young who made a huge impression on me as a teacher and an artist. It is a privilege to have a few of my murals downtown amongst his! Recently, the Downtown Association reached out and asked for a piece that truly celebrates our community and could be an interactive mural for photo opportunities. They had the perfect idea: an intricate set of wings filled with vibrant depictions of our unique local plant and wildlife, from native flora to the familiar white pelican. I wanted to celebrate the beautiful surroundings I’ve appreciated my entire life and help foster a shared sense of pride in our community. I always try to incorporate some element of light and decided to include some colorful orbs throughout the wings as a metaphor for nurturing hope and illuminating the potential for finding joy in places where we live. I am grateful to have had a part in this project and hope it inspires everyone who sees it to look around and cherish the natural beauty that surrounds us.”
Artist Bio:
Ashley Spivey grew up in Klamath County, currently teaches kindergarten, and runs the Starry Night Studio, where she offers a variety of art lessons and experiences. Ashley has been in education for 19 years and holds a Bachelor’s in Applied Psychology from OIT and a Master’s in Arts of Teaching from SOU. She has taught in classrooms with ages preK-12th grade but finds her heart in teaching Kindergarten. She loves to cure her art itch by teaching classes, creating pieces for local art shows, and painting murals whenever given the chance. What she enjoys most is watching the joy that comes from others creating! She has been excited to serve on the Underground Art Klamath Falls board and help its members with the art initiatives they have been implementing around town. She and her husband met while attending Bonanza High School, have been married for 19 years and are happy to raise their three daughters in the county they grew up in.
