KLAMATH FALLS, Ore – After chapel on a Wednesday afternoon, students filed into the gym at Crosspoint Christian School to honor one of their own. Davis Hartwell, a senior, made his commitment to golf for Oregon State University official in front of friends, family, and peers.

“Actually, Oregon State was a surprise. I’ve been a Ducks fan my whole life,” Hartwell said. “But Oregon State is awesome. Right when I got to campus, I fell in love with it.”

Davis’ recruitment began in the summer of 2024. That summer, the golfer embarked on a nationwide tour, making stops in Michigan, Maryland, Texas, and California. His most notable performance that summer was a runner-up finish in the PGA High School Invitational. These events exposed him to college coaches around the country. He has also won back-to-back 3A/2A/1A OSAA State Championships.

“Coach [Jon] Reehoorn was the first one to text me,” Hartwell said. “I just knew immediately that it was a green flag right there.”

Davis’ father, Jayme Hartwell, has been a big influence on him. “He and my grandpa were the ones who started out with me. They just kept pushing me to be better,” Davis said. “He helped me and took me on all of those trips. I am just super grateful.”

Curtis Waite is the golf coach at Crosspoint Christian School, and he was quick to give Jayme credit as well. “I only do three things as his golf coach,” Curtis said. “One is signing him up for golf. Two is signing him up for tournaments. And three is to make sure he has a ride. And most of the time is parents are a ride.” Waite also added, “There’s not much I can do for him. It’s been his family.”

Waite knows potential when he sees it, though. And Davis has bucketloads. “He believes in himself because he knows he has those talents,” said Curtis. “And you’re going to see, when he gets to college and starts competing with these college guys, that he has the talent. The people at Oregon State are going to help him with the mental side.”

Davis plans on majoring in business when he begins classes in the fall of 2026. He will join the Beavers Men’s Golf team, which wrapped up its 2025 fall schedule on October 21st with a 12th-place finish at the Williams Cup in Wilmington, North Carolina. On October 15th, the Beavers finished as runners-up at the Oregon State Invite. Last year, the Beavers placed 6th at the West Coast Conference Championships. The Beavers’ spring season begins in Mauni Lani, Hawai’i, at the Amer Ari Invitational on February 5th.

“I am excited to play college golf. It’s been my dream ever since I was a little kid.” Davis said about what he is most excited about. “Just playing golf.”
