Henley Cruises to South Side Series Win Over Mazama

The Henley Hornets (6-2; 5-0) defeated their cross-county rivals, the Mazama Vikings (1-8; 0-5) on Friday night in a decisive 48-6 win.

The Hornets wasted no time putting up the first two scores of the game, as on the third play from scrimmage, Joe Janney completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Julien Rayas. Henley then recovered an onside kick, which led to another score two plays later when Jeremiah Brunick punched in a four-yard rushing touchdown. The Hornets added another first-quarter score when Rayas caught his second touchdown of the night.

The Hornets and Rayas continued to pile on as the senior receiver would score again in the second quarter.  This time, Janney found him from six yards out for the score that ultimately sealed the fate of the Vikings, pushing the game to a running clock. Henley added another touchdown in the third quarter when Jaden Pena scored on a 12-yard rush, and again in the fourth when Derrick Cox punched it in close to the goal line. Mazama’s lone score came in the third quarter when Kellen Lee completed a 43-yard touchdown pass to Max Rodgers.
