NEWBERG, Ore. – Merrick Tambio converted a second half penalty kick to pull Oregon Tech even, as the Hustlin’ Owls played George Fox to a 1-1 draw at the Austin Sports Complex.
Tech (1-0-2) remained unbeaten on the season, finishing the night with a 17-8 edge in total shots – while limiting the hosts to two shots on goal over the last 84 minutes.
The Bruins (0-0-1) took an early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, as Alec Buongervino played a through-ball on a counter-attack, finishing Wilson Fresh for the opening goal.
OIT continued to pepper the GFU goal, but capitalized on a Bruins mistake in the 52nd minute to square the match. Cannon Spooner had a shot attempted blocked, but off the rebound, GFU defender Kilinahe Waring was whistled for a handball in the area. Tambio converted from the spot to get Tech on the board.
The Owls had nine chances over the final 38 minutes – but Fox keeper Chase Nelson made two saves to preserve the draw.
Ben Bradshaw led Tech with six shots, with both Sylver Schweiger and Anthony Aguiar-Cassilas each recording three shots.
The Hustlin’ Owls continue their road trip next weekend with dates in Phoenix against Arizona Christian and Park Gilbert.
