EAGLE POINT, Ore – The Klamath Falls Falcons (31-8-1) earned a victory over the West Albany Bulldogs (13-10) in the opening round of the state tournament. Carson Siems and Ian Meyer each knocked in three runs, as the Falcons earned a 13-0 win.
The Klamath Falls squad got on the board early, notching three runs in the first inning. P.J. Safford had a two-RBI single, and Meyer knocked one in with a double. Then, in the third inning, the Falcons took advantage of three Bulldog errors to score three runs.
If the third inning didn’t seal the deal, then the fourth inning certainly did, as the Falcons rallied for six runs in the penultimate frame. Siems blasted a two RBI double. Later, Conner Shively had an RBI single, followed by a two-RBI single from Jacoby Tacchini.
Safford got the start and picked up the win after going 3.0 innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven batters. John Tolliver earned the loss for West Albany, going 2.1 innings, allowing two hits, three runs, and setting down two hitters.
At the plate, Safford finished 3-3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI. Siems and Meyer were both 1-3 with three RBI and a double. Tacchini was 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. For the Bulldogs, Gaige Bending finishes 2-3 with Jaiken Bryant and Tolliver each picking up hits.
The Falcons advance through the winners’ bracket and will face the Eugene Ole Athletics on July 24th at 5:00 p.m. Eugene won their opening game 12-2 over the Redmond SunWest Builders. West Albany will face elimination against Redmond.
