Klamath Falls, OR — A late-night two-alarm fire tore through a large medical office building in Klamath Falls late Tuesday night, damaging several clinics and forcing the temporary closure of the facility.
The blaze broke out just before 11:20 p.m. at a multi-story building in the 2300 block of Mountain View Boulevard, owned by Sky Lakes Medical Center. A cleaning crew inside the facility spotted heavy black smoke pouring from the second floor and quickly called 911.
Fire crews arrived to find thick smoke drifting through the area—compounded by haze from the nearby Hagelstein Fire—and struggled to immediately pinpoint the source within the sprawling structure. Upon entry, firefighters encountered dense, floor-to-ceiling smoke filling the hallways and offices.
Despite challenging conditions, crews swiftly located the origin of the fire and brought it under control before it could engulf the entire building. Several rooms on the second floor and the attic sustained fire damage, while the rest of the building suffered extensive smoke damage.
The building will remain closed until further notice. Sky Lakes Medical Center staff were on site overnight coordinating clinic closures and initiating plans to maintain continuity of care for affected patients.
Officials say that without the quick actions and decisive work of the first-arriving fire companies, the outcome could have been far worse. “The rapid response was critical,” one official said. “This could have been a total loss.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
