Elk Fire Update

BLY MOUNTAIN, OR – The Elk Fire was reported today at approximately 10:44 AM in the Bly Mountain area, about 8 miles north of Bonanza, Oregon. The fire is estimated at over 200 acres and is actively spreading in a north-northeast direction. The local Type 3 SCOFMP team will take command of the fire tomorrow at 0700.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Multiple resources are currently working on the fire with additional resources on order. Current resources assigned to the incident include:

The fire is suspected to have destroyed a fiber optic line, which has impacted internet and phone services to the east of the fire ranging to Lakeview.

Public safety is our top priority. Residents in the surrounding areas are urged to remain alert and follow any emergency instructions issued by local authorities.
