Safford Deals Complete Game as Falcons Down Chugiak 10-5

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Klamath Falls Falcons (16-3) picked up their second win at the Alaska 529 Midseason Classic by defeating the Chugiak Mustangs (13-2) at Mulcahy Stadium. P.J. Safford tossed a complete game, picking up his first win on the hill this summer.

The Falcons earned a run in the bottom of the first inning when, after a leadoff single from Max Price followed by another base hit from Conner Shively, Jacoby Tacchini hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Price. The Falcons added another run in the second inning off an RBI single from Price.

The Mustangs scored a run in the third inning when Tyler Cage hit a sacrifice fly. But the wheels came off the wagon for Chugiak in the fourth inning when the pitching staff combined for six walks, allowing five runs. The Falcons put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth after RBIs from Price and Shively.

Safford allowed nine hits and punched out four batters in the win. The loss went to Weston Gracy, who pitched 2.0 innings, allowing five hits and two runs.

Price led the Falcons on offense, turning in a 3-4 day with two runs scored and two RBI. Shively finished 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Kollin Tacchini was 1-4 with two RBI and a run scored. For Chugiak, Tyler Cage finished 2-3 with two RBI.

The Falcons are 2-0 in pool play and have one more game remaining against the Kenai Twins. First pitch is set for 2:15 p.m. ADT (3:15 PDT) on June 28th with live video streaming on mybasin.com.
