WASILLA, Alaska – The Klamath Falls Falcons (14-3) defeated the Madisonville Rangers (7-5) in the title game of the Todd Ryan Memorial championship game 7-1, becoming the second Oregonian team to win the event.
The Falcons earned their spot in the championship after two wins on Tuesday against Wasilla and Palmer. Madisonville had to battle for their place in the final game of group play, in which they beat Klamath Falls 16-4.
Kollin Tacchini got the Falcons on the board in the top of the first inning, when a single to left field scored Conner Shively. Madisonville evened the game in the third inning when Coner Mitchuson had an RBI single, driving in Jaelin Groves.
The single run in the third would be the only offense of the day for the Kentucky squad, as the Falcons added one more run in the top of the fourth, and three more in the fifth. Corbin Hamilton blasted a line drive to center field for a two-out two-RBI base hit.
Leading 5-1 in the sixth inning, the Falcons pushed the game out of reach with a Shively RBI single, and Shively would later score on a groundball in the infield.
Tacchini picked up his second win on the hill, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing six hits and one unearned run while punching out four batters. The loss went to Layden Bozarth, who worked 4.2 innings and allowed five hits, three runs, and struck out five batters.
Offensively, Shively was 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Tacchini finished 1-4 with two RBI. Ryan Douglas also added a 2-4 day with a run scored and an RBI. For Madisonville, Conner Mitchuson went 2-3 with an RBI, and Tate Nobles was 2-3.
Klamath Falls joins Eugene (2023) as the only teams from Oregon to win the Todd Ryan Memorial Tournament. Madisonville was the first team from Kentucky to make the title game.
The Falcons and Rangers will both continue their tour of Alaska in Anchorage on June 26th at the Alaska 529 Midseason Classic. Madisonville plays in the nightcap against West Anchorage, while the Falcons play the first game of the day at 11:45 a.m. ADT (12:45 p.m. PDT) against South Anchorage.
