Body of drowning victim recovered in Lake Siskiyou

On the evening of June 12, at about 7:00 pm, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Dispatch was alerted to a potential drowning at Lake Siskiyou. SCSO deputies in the area quickly responded to the North Shore boat launch where the incident was reported, while an SCSO Sergeant prepared a rescue boat to search the waters.

Through their conversations with witnesses, it was revealed to the Deputies that a male in his thirties had been swimming around a boat with a friend, when the boat drifted from beyond their reach. The man then began to struggle to stay afloat and disappeared from view before aid could be rendered.

The SCSO Dive team was dispatched to search the area along with support from the Siskiyou County Search and Rescue K9 and Drone units. During a continued search, Shasta County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area to assist. This joint effort continued until approximately 2:54 pm this afternoon when the man’s body was located and recovered at an underwater depth of 49 feet.

Identification of the drowning victim is pending the notification of next of kin, and the investigation into this tragic incident remains open and active. We would like to express our gratitude to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office for generously providing their highly skilled personnel and equipment, as well as to the dedicated volunteers of the Siskiyou County Search and Rescue Team.
