Henley Baseball: Hornets Collect Season Sweep of Klamath Union

Kiger-Stadium

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore – The Henley Hornets (12-0; 20-1) collected a double-header sweep of the Klamath Union Pelicans (3-9; 4-16) to remain unbeaten in conference play. Here is how each game unfolded.

GAME 1: HENLEY 10, KLAMATH UNION 0

The Hornets got a stellar pitching performance from Beau Pyle who pitched a complete game, five inning shutout allowing only two hits and striking out eight batters.

The Hornets scored a run in the first on an Aiden Hayes double to plate Payton Price. The fifth inning is where Henley separated themselves. The Hornets scored five runs on base hits from Payton Price and Connor Shively, a double from Luke Austin, and a two run home run from Mark Carpenter. That was Carpenter’s league leading seventh home run of the season.

Henley added two more runs in the third and fifth innings to secure the win. Price, Shively, and Carpenter all collected two hits on the day and knocked in multiple runs. Hayes went 1-4 but had two RBI on the day.

The only two hits from Klamath Union came from Ryan Glidden and Tilden Coffman. The Pels Chase Knecht was hung with the loss. He pitched 4.2 innings allowing 12 hits, 10 runs, two walks, and six strikeouts.

GAME 2: HENLEY 16, KLAMATH UNION 1

Aiden Hayes went 2-3 and knocked in four runs and scored three of his own in the nightcap at Kiger Stadium.

It took the Hornets a while to get the offense rolling in the second game. Pelicans starter P.J. Safford held Henley in check through 4.0 innings allowing two hits, two earned runs, and struck out two.

Henley led 3-1 heading into the fifth inning and that’s when the bats woke up for the Hornets. Pyle lined a two RBI triple off of Pels reliever Brandon Jones. Henley scored four more in the sixth inning and seven in the seventh.

Errors plagued the Pelicans throughout the ballgame. Six Klamath Union errors lead to nine unearned runs, including all seven in the final inning.

Mark Carpenter tossed his third complete game of the season allowing four hits and one run. He struck out seven Pelican batters and allowed one walk.

Hayes, Beau Pyle, and Max Price all had multiple hits for the Hornets. P.J. Safford had a productive day at the dish for KU going 3-3 with an RBI.

The Pelicans look to snap a four game losing skid against Phoenix on Tuesday. The Hornets will hope to continue their 15 game winning streak against Mazama.
