Klamath County Public Health: Drug take-back day Saturday

DEA Drug take-back day April 27

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Disposal of prescription drugs can be difficult. Annually, the Drug Enforcement Administration sponsors a “take back” day, which is Saturday, April 27.

“There is no central location for the two annual take-back days in Klamath County,” said Klamath County Public Health Director Jennifer Little. “We like to use the specific days as reminders to our community members to utilize the valuable year-round resources provided by our partner agencies when disposing of unused prescriptions and other drugs.”

Local residents don’t need to hold on to unused or expired prescriptions. Year-round drop-off kiosks are available during regular business hours at:

Additionally, several locations offer pre-addressed, postage-paid envelopes year-round to return unused prescriptions through the MED-Project. These are:

To protect your privacy, please remove all personally identifiable information on medication labels or packaging before disposing of unwanted medicine.

Tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs are accepted at the kiosks. Liquids (including intravenous solutions), syringes and other sharps, and illegal drugs are not accepted. Vaping devices and cartridges are accepted at drop-off locations, if lithium batteries are removed.

Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue, leading to potential accidental poisoning, misuse, and overdose. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment.

During the 24th National Take Back Day in October 2023, Pacific Northwest residents from Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Alaska turned in 15,850 pounds (almost 8 tons) of unwanted or expired medications at 147 Take Back sites.
