Pacific Crest Federal Credit Union warns of phishing scam

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Pacific Crest Federal Credit Union is advising caution after the emergence of a phishing scam targeting local customers.

In a Facebook post Sunday, Pacific Crest said someone had bought a list of Klamath Falls phone numbers on the internet and was sending text messages claiming to be Pacific Crest. The post included a screenshot of one of the messages, which described a pending charge from Albertsons and contained a link to cancel the charge. The post noted that the link ended in “.online” and said customers should not click on the link.

A Pacific Crest representative said this type of scam is fairly common and is an attempt to steal customers’ personal information. The representative said anyone who receives a text message like the one in the Facebook post should call their bank to check its legitimacy.
