Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors Declares Emergency Over Dam Removal Fall out

Siskiyou County, CA– A six-hour meeting Tuesday with comments from residents prompted the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors to proclaim a local emergency.

The board has also requested California Gov. Gavin Newsom proclaim a state of emergency based on water quality concerns.

Residents worried because water testing showed elevated levels of heavy metals like arsenic and lead after the recent dam removal,

while other residents were concerned over the massive fish kills and deer being trapped in the muddy banks.

With Siskiyou County’s official emergency declaration the county is now requesting Governor Gavin Newsom proclaim a state of emergency for the county as well.

That would make federal or state assistance available for the recovery from this disaster.
