Smelly Winds Thanks to Warm Winter

Klamath Falls, ORE– KAGO News was tasked with finding out where an odor was coming from that has been seemingly more intense here in Klamath Falls than in years past.

Speaking with both wastewater Treatment plants here in Klamath Falls as we have two, we asked them both if they were doing something different this year that may be the source of the odor.

However, much like the back seat of a car on its way to Wally World, it wasn’t easy finding where the odor came from.

Brett Blofsky of the South Suburban Sanitary District explained in a phone call that the unseasonably warm weather caused some havoc in the wastewater process that led to a somewhat odoriferous situation.

He says they have increased the aeration of the ponds and hopes that Mother Nature cooperates but with 130 or so acres of ponds to manage, that could take time.

The wind and the weather help on some days and other days not so much, but he says they are doing they’re best to keep the odor at bay.
