Linthicum and Cohorts Can’t Run Says High Court

Klamath Falls, ORE– 10 Republican senators who participated in the longest quorum-denying walkout in state history last year learned their political fate today.

The Oregon Supreme Court ruled today that Klamath Falls State Senator Dennis Linthicum and 9 other state senators will be barred from running in 2024 and 2026 after they skipped sessions more than ten times last year to protest bills on abortion, transgender health care, and gun rights

Five of the 10 lawmakers sued  Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade, who last August said the boycotting senators disqualified them from seeking reelection.

The 2023 walkout paralyzed the Legislature for weeks and only ended after Republicans forced concessions from Democrats on a sweeping bill related to expanding access to abortion and transgender health care and another measure regarding the manufacture and transfer of undetectable firearms, known as ghost guns.
