Short-Handed Beavers Fall to Notre Dame

El Paso, Tex – Oregon State entered Friday’s Sun Bowl in a tough spot. The Beavers lost their starting and backup quarterback to the transfer portal along with five other players who opted out. The Beavers were also operating with a new first-year head coach Trent Bray. OSU was sent away from El Paso after taking a 40-8 beating from the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame pulled no punches for the Beavers. The Irish bolted out to a 14-0 lead at halftime and continued to build from there. Oregon State’s lone score came with 6:02 left to go in the fourth when the game was already decided.

Oregon State’s Ben Gulbranson struggled to find a groove, completing 16 of 27 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown. He also threw an interception at the end of the first half. The Beavers rushed for two yards total on 16 carries which is a far cry from the season average of 167.1 yards per game which ranked fifth in the Pac-12.

Steve Angeli completed 15 of 19 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns. Jadarian Prince led Notre Dame on the ground with 13 carries, 106 yards, and a score. Jordan Faison hauled in five catches for 115 yards and a touchdown.

Oregon State ends the season 8-5 overall in the final tour of the Pac-12. Notre Dame improved to 10-3.
