Ultimatum Averted

Klamath County, Ore– Today (Wednesday) was the day.

Ninety days ago, Klamath County Commissioners gave Sheriff Kaber an ultimatum to fire his two sons or resign his office by today.

According to a statement from Sheriff Kaber this morning, the Commissioners changed their mind about the resignations, but no word on what their plan is next. In a press release received from the Sheriff’s office, Sargent Ryan Kaber and Deputy Erick Kaber received an email stating that “your employment status with Klamath County will not change on December 27, 2023.”

A legal opinion that pointed to wrongdoing by the Commissioners just before the holidays and a demonstration of support for Kaber last Tuesday seemed to have the desired effect as today there is no movement to try and force the Sheriff to resign or have his children fired. Commissioners met in an Executive session on Friday but have yet to disclose any plan on what they will do to continue the effort to force the Sheriff from office, but as of today, the Sheriff is staying at the helm and his sons are still on the job.
