Twas A Week Before Christmas in Klamath County

Twas the week before Christmas and all round the county,

the people were wondering about the sheriff and what to do about it.

The Commissioners had said that the sheriff did wrong,

by hiring his boys to do a police job, but what to my wondering ears

did I hear, but that Kaber got an attorney who suddenly appeared?

He wrote an opinion that pointed to our home, saying

Commissioners DeGroot and Henslee did some wrongs of their own.

By filing with ethics, a complaint about Kaber,

they committed a felony and showed ill will to their neighbor.

But that’s not the end of this never-ending journey,

Henslee said Saturday he’s getting his own attorney.

He says it’s all false, the legal opinion,

and we’ll hear all about it, hopefully by the weekend.

But this weekend is Christmas and we may all agree,

that if just for one night we might gather round the tree

and sing with one voice for the whole world to hear,

that our County’s at peace and our hearts full of cheer.

Prose aside,  we had major fireworks in the sheriff’s ethics probe this weekend. On Friday night, KAGO news received a 19-page legal opinion from C Akin Blitz at the request of the Sheriff’s office. He says the Commissioners may have committed a felony for filing false complaints against the sheriff. Commissioner Henslee says it’s not true, and calls the claims ridiculous. In an email received on Saturday, he said he is talking to a lawyer today and preparing a response. But the people of Klamath have other plans. Mike Britton. The man behind all the signs in town that say, “Support Sheriff Kaber” tells KAGo news that tomorrow at 1 pm they will host a demonstration of support for Sheriff Kaber on the steps of the Klamath County Government Center at 305 Mian St downtown, rain or shine. If you would like to see any of the documents including Blitz’s legal opinion, head over to mybasin.com where we have posted the ethics complaint along with responses from the Sheriff and the latest legal response.
