Letter to the Editor: Sugarman’s Corner

Hi my name is Abbie and I’m one of the granddaughters of Kiva Sugarman! I was told about Sugarman’s Corner a few years ago by my second cousin who lives in Denver, Co. I had never met my grandfather since I was born after he died. But I’m quite proud of him and what he did in Klamath Falls, Or. My moms name was Ruby Joseph and she was born in Klamath Falls on Nov. 18, 1924. In 1973 she moved to Israel with her 3rd husband and passed away on Dec. 25, 1986.

I was quite sad to read that Sugarman’s Corner was vandalized! I sure hope it was not a hate crime. My family is Jewish and it’s also sad to hear that this park is being used this way.

I did Google the park recently and it states it’s been fixed and cleaned up and I sure hope it stays that way. I moved from Berkeley, Ca approx 20 years ago to Edmonds, Wa. I bought a condo here and thought of moving again in the near future. Thank you so very much for taking care of the city park named after my grandfather, Kiva Sugarman.

With much appreciation,

Abbie White
