Bonanza Meeting On Policing

Klamath Falls, Ore. – Klamath County Commissioners and the Klamath County Sheriff sat down in  Bonanza on Monday for a listening session with voters about the policing situation in Bonanza. Talk of hiring a private security force to watch the town in the overnights and of a shrinking deputy force to watch 6000 miles of the county were all on the docket for discussion.

Sheriff Kaber says he is allowed to have 36 sworn deputies but is down to eleven with two of those on the injured list. Due to low pay and a dropping experience level of the squad. Commissioner DeGroot said he would listen to any idea, even a ridiculous one, but the fact remains that funding is the name of the game and that is a perennial issue for the sheriff’s department.
