Myrtle Point 76, Crosspoint Christian 16 (Thursday)

Crosspoint Christian (3-3, 2-2) suffered their biggest defeat of the season and fell to fourth place in Special District 1. The Warriors have been outscored 140-30 in their last two games. They host Lost River (7-0, 4-0) at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Henley 42, Mazama 14

Mazama’s (6-2, 4-1) nine-year league championship streak came to a stunning end as Henley (8-0, 5-0) handed the Vikings their biggest home loss since Vic Lease became head coach in 2013.

Unlike most of their games this year, the Hornets didn’t run away with this one early. Joe Janney scored the game’s first touchdown on a 17-yard run after being forced out of the pocket with 2:07 left in the first quarter. With 9:55 to go in the second quarter, Logan Whitlock scored a 1-yard rushing touchdown after a 32-yard reception by Chris Janney.

Down 14-0, Mazama put together a drive that took up the entire rest of the half and included two fourth-down conversions. It ended with a buzzer-beating touchdown pass from Tyson Van Gastel to Ryan Hayden to cut the Hornets lead in half.

With momentum on their side, the Vikings pulled off a surprise onside kick to start the third quarter. They advanced to the Henley 39-yard line before Kyle Nichols knocked the ball loose after a pitch and Chris Janney picked it up and turned on the jets for a 59-yard touchdown.

Janney’s scoop and score marked the start of a 28-0 run for Henley.

Whitlock scored another 1-yard rushing touchdown after a 34-yard run with 5:19 to go in the third quarter. After forcing a Mazama punt, Henley dialed up a trick play they hadn’t attempted since their season opener: the halfback pass.

It worked perfectly. Logan Whitlock took the handoff and ran to the right before floating a pass to a wide open Chris Janney for a 43-yard touchdown–Janney’s second of the night.

Not to be outdone by his older brother, Joe Janney scored his second touchdown four seconds into the fourth quarter on a five-yard run. That put Henley up 42-7 and put the running clock on for their fourth straight game.

Janney completed all four of his pass attempts for 86 yards while rushing for 31 yards and two touchdowns on three carries. Whitlock finished with 80 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Defensively, the Hornets forced three fumbles, all of which led to touchdowns.

Bodie Norlock led Mazama with 72 yards on 13 carries. He also scored the game’s final touchdown on a 19-yard run with 2:14 remaining. The Vikings outgained Henley 240-237, running 60 plays to the Hornets’ 23.

Henley concludes the regular season with a trip to North Bend (7-2, 3-2) at 7 p.m. next Friday. The Hornets have already secured the Special District 4 championship because of the Bulldogs’ loss to Ashland (5-3, 2-3) Friday, but they’ll likely need to win convincingly to be awarded the No. 1 seed in the 4A playoffs.

Mazama’s last regular season game is a trip to Marshfield (4-4, 3-2) at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Lost River 49, Bonanza 6

Lost River (7-0, 4-0) made quick work of their rival, leading 24-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Raiders outgained Bonanza (3-5, 1-3) 390-98 and forced five turnovers (four interceptions and a fumble), including a pick six by Connor Dunlea.

The 7-yard interception return touchdown was Dunlea’s shortest of the evening. He also scored rushing touchdowns of 80 and 33 yards, caught a 61-yard receiving touchdown, and threw a 26-yard touchdown pass.

Raiders quarterback Chase McAuliffe completed 6-of-11 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Emmett O’Brien had three receptions for 57 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Dunlea had three interceptions and McAuliffe had one.

Lost River wraps up the regular season with a trip to Crosspoint Christian (3-3, 2-2) at 7 p.m. next Friday. Bonanza, which could still make the playoffs as an at-large team, hosts Chiloquin (0-7, 0-4) for their regular season finale at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Camas Valley 66, Chiloquin 6

Chiloquin (0-7, 0-4) wraps up their season at Bonanza (3-5, 1-3) at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Lakeview 48, Phoenix 13

Lakeview (7-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season last week with a running clock win on homecoming. The Honkers host Sutherlin (3-5) to finish the regular season at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Philomath 30, Klamath Union 8

Klamath Union’s (1-7, 0-5) homecoming didn’t go quite as well. The Pelicans finish the season at home against Ashland (5-3, 2-3) at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Loyalton 27, Tulelake 24

Tulelake (7-2, 6-1) has now lost back-to-back games after a 7-0 start. The Honkers had previously beaten Loyalton (5-4, 4-4) 36-0 Sept. 15. They wrap up the regular season at home against Burney (4-4, 3-3) at 6 p.m. next Friday.
