Crosspoint Christian 64, Chiloquin 25 (Thursday)
Chiloquin (0-3, 0-1) took an 8-6 lead in the first quarter, but Crosspoint Christian (2-1, 1-0) scored the next 50 points in both teams’ league opener.
The run started immediately after Chiloquin’s Danny Black scored on a 5-yard touchdown run and Lalan Wilder ran in the 2-point conversion, as Crosspoint Christian’s Chase Bacus ran the ensuing kickoff back 82 yards for a touchdown. Bacus also scored the Warriors’ first touchdown on a 41-yard punt return and later scored on an 8-yard run and a 4-yard reception.
Crosspoint Christian quarterback Kody Sparks completed 4-of-7 passes for 65 yards and three touchdowns, with 61 yards and two touchdowns coming on three Keaton Murphy receptions. Murphy also closed out the scoring for the game with a 74-yard kickoff return touchdown.
The Warriors put up 271 yards on the ground, with Bacus totaling 111 yards on 10 carries and Garret Little adding 94 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.
Chiloquin scored on their last two possessions by way of a 65-yard run from Wilder and a 50-yard run from Austin Earle. Wilder completed 5-of-13 passes for 28 yards while totaling 163 rushing yards on 21 carries. The Panthers’ 25 points this game was a significant improvement from their first two contests, where they scored a total of six points.
Crosspoint Christian head coach Jim Johnston said he thought his team executed well on some of the things they had been trying to fix after the Warriors’ 58-48 loss to Perrydale last week. With the game well in hand by the fourth quarter, Johnston gave his reserves their first action of the season and said he was especially pleased with what he saw from Trey Johnston (12 rushing yards on four carries), Chris Kelly (50 rushing yards on seven carries) and Kayson Holmes (two solo tackles and two passes defended).
Crosspoint Christian is off next week, while Chiloquin travels to Myrtle Point (3-0) at 2 p.m. next Saturday.
Henley 46, Ashland 15
Logan Whitlock continues to raise the bar.
After scoring four rushing touchdowns in each of Henley’s (3-0, 1-0) first two games, Whitlock torched Ashland (2-1, 0-1) for five rushing touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown as the Hornets made a statement in their league opener.
“Ashland is still a really good team,” Henley head coach Alex Stork said. “That’s a playoff team. Just really proud of how our guys came out from the very start tonight. Played really hard, executed the game plan and were disciplined throughout.”
Whitlock ran for two touchdowns in the first quarter to give Henley a 12-0 lead (both PAT attempts were unsuccessful). With 2:39 remaining in the quarter, Ashland quarterback JoJo Harrower found Caden Negra for a 9-yard touchdown and it looked like the Grizzlies had woken up. The momentum swing was short-lived, as Whitlock ran back the ensuing kickoff to put the Hornets up 20-7. Ashland did not score again until late in the 4th, when Stork had long pulled his starters and the running clock was on.
While Logan Whitlock was the main event, Henley’s defense shined as well, picking off Harrower twice and recovering a fumble.
“Our turnover margin continues to be a huge point of emphasis for us,” Stork said. “We’ve only turned the ball over one time and we’ve forced over 10 turnovers now, so any time you can do that you’re going to be playing winning football.”
Henley travels to Cascade (3-0) for their final non-league game at 7 p.m. next Friday.
Marist Catholic 33, Mazama 29
Marist Catholic (2-1) took the lead with 1:24 left in the game to hand Mazama (2-1) their first regular season loss in two years.
Mazama quarterback Tyson Van Gastel had three rushing touchdowns, including one from 50 yards.
Mazama hosts North Bend (3-0, 1-0) in their league opener at 7 p.m. next Friday.
Hidden Valley 20, Klamath Union 7
Despite outgaining Hidden Valley (1-2, 1-0) 312-294, Klamath Union (1-2, 0-1) was unable to maintain their second quarter lead in both teams’ league opener.
The Pelicans struck first on a 17-yard pass from Lamar Cuellar to Jeff Spooner with 10:38 to go in the half. With 4:59 remaining, Hidden Valley’s Braxton Brierty scored on a 30-yard run to cut Klamath Union’s lead to 7-6 (the PAT was no good). Brierty then hauled in a 27-yard touchdown pass from Austyn Klingler as time expired to give the Mustangs a 14-7 halftime lead after Presley Noga ran in the 2-point conversion. After a scoreless third quarter, Samuel Larson popped off a 66-yard touchdown run with 11:39 left in the fourth quarter for what would be the game’s final points.
Cuellar completed 27-of-50 passes for 274 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. Spooner finished the game with 12 receptions for 178 yards. Defensively, Klamath Union got two sacks from Jamar Cuellar and an interception from Mason Branum.

The ground game was highly effective for Lost River, as Kayden Hartman added 150 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries. Quarterback Chase McAuliffe completed 6-of-10 passes for 79 yards and scored on a 1-yard keeper.
Defensively, the Raiders got three sacks from Joel DeJong and two from Brock Lacy.
