OIT’s Potts to begin pro career in Romania

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Former Oregon Tech basketball player Joey Potts signed his first professional contract with Steaua București in Romania’s Liga Națională Wednesday.

Potts, a 6-foot-10-inch, 200-pound forward, spent the past two seasons with the Hustlin’ Owls after stops at Oregon State and the College of Marin. He was named honorable mention All-Cascade Conference after averaging 12 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game during the 2022-23 season.

Potts will be the 42nd Oregon Tech alum to play professional basketball, and the first to do so in Romania. Prior to Potts, the last Hustlin’ Owl to play professionally was Mitchell Fink, who appeared in 13 games for Maia Basket Clube in Portugal’s Proliga during the 2021-22 season before returning to Klamath Falls to join the OIT coaching staff.

Founded in 1952, Steaua București has won 21 Romanian Championships, the second most in league history. The team also achieved a third place finish at the 1961 FIBA European Champions Cup. With Potts’ signing, this will be the 11th consecutive season that Steaua București has featured at least one American player.
