43 homes lost in the Golden Fire, but progress is being made despite Red Flag Conditions

The State Fire Marshal began damage assessments from the Golden Fire today after days of dangerous conditions which have hampered the assessment process. 43 single primary residences with 43 Out-buildings were destroyed, many during the fire’s initial run on July 22, 2023.

For the purpose of this assessment  primary residences included structures with a heating source, a bed, and a cooking device. There are currently 317 homes affected in all evacuation levels and  The Red Cross sheltered or assisted 56 community members on Saturday evening and 31 on Sunday evening.

Red Flag conditions continue today but crews were able to strengthen control lines around the fire perimeter and maintain the current fire footprint.
