FOREST GROVE, OR – The Henley girl’s basketball team battled hard but lost in the consolation finals at the OSAA On-Point Community Credit Union 4A State Tournament.
The game began with the Philomath Warriors jumping out to an early lead. After the first quarter, Henley found themselves down 13-8 and needing a run. Sophomore Anna Harper filled the bill for Henley in the second spearheading a 10-2 Hornets run and scoring seven points in the period.
Henley kept applying pressure in the third quarter, taking a four-point lead into the final frame. The teams traded leads three times in the fourth and the game was tied at 50 with 1:54 left after freshman Lily Fussel knocked down a three-point jump shot. Henley had opportunities to score down the stretch, but three turnovers in the final 90 seconds allowed Philomath to pull away 54-50 and claim fourth place in the tournament.
Anna Harper won the Moda Health Player of the Game presented by the OSAA as she finished with 21 points and six rebounds. Annie Campos secured a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists. The Warriors were led by senior Abigail Brown who scored 17 points on six of nine shooting and secured player of the game honors for Philomath.
This game spelled the end of Henley’s season. Senior Holly Parker is the only player departing the program by way of graduation. The Skyline Conference champs finished the season with an 18-10 overall record.
The opening day of the 2023-24 season is November 30th.
