Henley Athletes Prepare for Conference Grind

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore – A new year is upon us, and with the snowfall of winter comes action on the hardwood for many high school athletes in the Klamath Basin. The boys and girls in the Henley basketball programs have high goals coming into this season since both earned trips to the state playoffs in 2022.

The boys are hoping to fulfill their potential as one of the top teams in Oregon. In 2022 the Hornets battled their way to an undefeated record in conference play and captured their first league title since 2020. Henley unceremoniously exited the playoffs after a 64-62 loss to Stayton on their home floor. Now with seven returning players, Henley must have similar aspirations of making a trip to Forest Grove High School for the Elite-8.

The Henley girls are picking up where they left off in 2022. The Lady Hornets earned a playoff bid last year after making a strong push at the end of the season. The scrappy ballclub earned the 16th and final seed in the field and played top-ranked Philomath in the first round, losing 69-52. The Lady Hornets will have six returning players including junior Annie Campos. She was the team’s leader in almost every statistical category during conference play last year and is poised to do it again this season. Even with a player like Campos who earned conference accolades and was an Honorable Mention for All-State in 2022, the rest of the Hornets work hard crashing the glass and dishing the rock to share opportunities. The Lady Hornets look to turn heads again this season.

The Skyline Conference itself looks different this season with the North Valley Knights missing from action. North Valley dropped out of the 4A classification over the summer and joined 3A’s Far West League. Fewer games on the schedule means less time to separate yourself from the pack in the league standings. Both the boys and the girls will open up the league schedule at home against Hidden Valley on January 13th.

Coverage of the girls game begins at 6 pm on mybasin.com and the boys coverage starts at 7:30 on 104.3 FM and 960 AM.
