DURHAM, N.C. – Oregon State junior Trevor Larnach and sophomore Adley Rutschmanhave been added to the Golden Spikes Award Watch List, USA Baseball announced on Tuesday.
The award, which is given annually to the nation’s top amateur player, has a midseason watch list that features 40 players. The Beavers are one of six teams nationally with at least two on the list.
Larnach, an outfielder from Pleasant Hill, Calif., leads the team with eight home runs and 37 runs batted in this season. He’s batting .325 with 11 doubles and 22 walks, having played in all 30 of the team’s games.
A sociology major, he was named the Pac-12 Conference’s Player of the Week to open the 2018 season.
Rutschman, meanwhile, leads the team with a .383 batting average, collecting 10 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 31 RBI. A business major, the catcher and infielder has also walked 19 times in 29 games.
The Golden Spikes Award will name its semifinalists on May 21, with the selection of the finalists set for June 6. The award will be presented June 28.
The Beavers head back on the road for the third consecutive weekend when visiting Missouri State in a series that starts Friday with a doubleheader at Hammons Field in Springfield. Game one of the doubleheader Friday is slated for a 9 a.m. PT (11 a.m. in Missouri) start. Game one only will air live on ESPNU.
