Commissioners to select interim Senator to replace Bates

Alan bates

Medford, Ore.– The death of state Senator Alan Bates means some changes for the upcoming November election. State law says that if a legislative seat is vacated more than 61 days before the next general election, the position will be placed on the ballot for that general election. Each major party is welcome to put a contender on the ballot. In the meantime, the Jackson County Board of Commissioners are expected to select an interim Senator on Thursday, and could also nominate a candidate to run for election on the November ballot.
