Klamath Falls, Ore.– Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber has ordered that flags in the state be lowered at half-staff on Saturday in honor of the Phoenix man who died while assigned to the Launch fire at Four Mile Lake. 21-year old Matthew Goodnature died when he fell while walking near the fire camp.

“Matthew Goodnature’s death is a reminder of the human toll that wildfires have,” Governor Kitzhaber said. “He was a young man who was doing his part to help protect Oregon’s natural resources. As Oregonians, we honor Matthew for his dedication to public safety, and for his sacrifice. My thoughts are with his family, friends and his colleagues who continue to risk their lives to fight fires.”

A memorial service will be held in Phoenix on Saturday.
