Smoke May Have Caused Power Outage

Klamath Falls, Ore.– Power was knocked out to about 6,500 Pacific Power customers in Klamath Falls Tuesday afternoon, including the OIT campus.

Tom Gauntt with Pacific Power says a transformer outage caused the disruption– which could be smoke-related.

“At a certain point, at a level of smokiness in the air, it actually makes it so electricity can’t conduct when you get intense enough smoke cloud. Don’t know if that happened here but it’s something we’re looking into.

Gauntt said crews quickly switched the power supply through another transformer, and power was restored within about ten minutes.
